North Carolina Plants that Love the Summer Heat06.24.2021
With July quickly approaching, North Carolinians are prepared for the HEAT!
IS YOUR PROPERTY'S LANDSCAPING?
I came across this blog post, Ten Plants That Can Take the Heat, from the Durham Master Gardeners Blog. Although the blog post is a couple of years old, the featured plants still thrive in a hot North Carolina summer.
Growing up in North Carolina, this list brought a smile to my face, as I remember picking several of these flowers for my mom. Twenty-five years later, Garden Sage has become a favorite in my own herb garden and in some of my favorite recipes.
A couple of my favorites listed are:
Catmint (Nepeta ‘Walker’s Low’)
Lantana (Lantana Camara)
Purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)
Garden Sage (Salvia Officinalis)

As with most plants, understanding the needs of the plant and proper maintenance are vital to their longevity throughout each season.
